Located at the Southeast corner of Vaughan, Crestwood-Springfarm-Yorkhill is one of Thornhill's most densely populated areas. The Community has several indoor shopping malls and advanced public transit infrastructure.

Community Overview

The Community of Crestwood-Springfarm-Yorkhill runs from Yonge Street in the east to Centre Street in the North, Bathurst Street in the west, and Steeles Avenue in the South. It borders North York on the South and Markham on the east.

1. Housing:

The real estate in this part of Vaughan starts from entry-level apartments to spacious detached houses. About 45% of properties were constructed in the 1980s, while many others were built after the 1990s. Condo buildings and townhouses are scattered across the Community's main streets. The primary freehold houses are detached homes, but attached townhomes, semi-detached, and link houses are also available.

From MLS listings, in the past 90 days, Crestwood-Springfarm-Yorkhill Vaughan sold 14 detached houses on average of $1,690,870; 5 Attached town home, Semi-detached and Link houses on average of $1,123,400; 2 Town homes on average of $810,000; 25 condos on average of $694,608.

2. Demographic:

Crestwood-Springfarm-Yorkhill is home to a sizeable Jewish community, many from Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Romania, and Israel. Chinese account for over 10% of the population in the Community. Korean, Persian, and others make up most of the remaining residents. Crestwood-Springfarm-Yorkhill is a relatively elder community with a median age of around 46.

3. Transportation:

Public transit is appropriate for residents. Multiple bus routes are available on Yonge Street, Bathurst Street, Steeles Avenue, Centre Street, Clark Avenue, and Hilda Avenue. Buses on Yonge Street connect Finch Subway station, which converges with the central transit system to downtown Toronto. The Yonge North Subway Extension, expected to complete around 2030, will also have a new station at Yonge street and Clark Avenue. For active car commuters, Highway 407, a toll expressway just north of the neighborhood, links two significant Highways, 404 and 400. Furthermore, it takes around 15 minutes to drive to highway 401 via Yonge Street and 10 minutes to highway 404 via John and Steels Avenue.

4. Recreation:

There are several parks distributed evenly throughout the Community. York Hill District Parks, Hefhill Park, Bathurst Estates Park, Heatherton Parkette, Winding Lane Park, and Vaughn Crest Park present residents with walking trails, basketball courts, baseball diamonds, tennis courts, and children's playgrounds.

5. Shopping:

Several shopping malls and plazas surround the Community. South of Steeles Avenue, Centerpoint Mall has over a hundred stores, including Hudson Bays, No Frills, Beer Store, Tim Horton, Canadian Tire, Canada Computers & Electronics, many restaurants, several banks, and telecom stores. East of Yonge Street, the World Shops shopping mall has outdoor and indoor retail shops offering groceries, dining, banking, cosmetic Services, and more. At Northwest Corner is Promenade Mall, the fourth indoor mall in York Region with 150 commercial tenants anchored by T&T supermarket.

6. Schools:

Thornhill Public School and Yorkhill Elementary School are two elementary schools that accept students from kindergarten to grade 8. The school zone is bounded by Clark Avenue, with Yorkhill School intaking students living north of the Community and Thornhill School receiving South. Yorkhill Elementary School offers French Immersion programs from grades 1 to 3.

For high schools, students living north of Clark Avenue and West of Charles Street will go to Westmount Collegiate, one of four York region high schools specializing in arts programs. Thornhill Secondary School admits students from the remainder of the Community. Both these high schools welcome international students and offer ESL courses.
