Community Overview
Willowdale West runs from Bathurst Street on the west to York Cemetery and Funeral Centre on the south, Yonge Street on the east, and Finch Avenue on the north. North York Center subway station and Finch subway station are conveniently located at the southeast and northeast corners of the community.
1. Housing:
Predominated by single-detached real estate built before 1960, this North York community witnesses a constant fresh condo development. Many old detached bungalows sitting on an extensive front lot have been gradually transformed into custom-built modern homes. Freehold and condo townhouses are mainly centred around Finch Avenue, Beecroft Road and Yonge Street. There are also a few Semi-detached houses built around 1960 near Beecroft and Holcolm Road. Population density is high along Yonge Street and Beecroft Road, where around 20 high-rise condo buildings, government housing and rental apartments accommodate both owners and renters here.
From MLS listings, in the past 90 days, Willowdale West Toronto sold 12 detached houses on average of $1,976,857; 3 Attached town home, Semi-detached and Link houses on average of $1,595,167; 43 condos on average of $770,832.
2. Demographic:
About 40% of the residents are of European Origin, and 38% are of East and Southeast Asia origin. The top visible minorities in Willowdale West are Chinese, Korean, and Iranian.
3. Transportation:
Due to convenient public transportation, around 41% of residents travel by public transit. Finch bus terminal, located at the northeast corner of the community, offers 10 TTC bus lines, 11 YRT bus lines, and 19 GO bus lines. Furthermore, the Nearby Finch subway station and North York Center subway station, located at the southeast corner of the community, connect the central transit system to downtown Toronto. Car commuters can drive onto highway 401 from the community via Yonge Street in less than 10 minutes.
4. Recreation:
North York Civic Centre at the southeast corner of the community is home to the Toronto District School board. It has a sizeable public Library and the Douglas Snow Aquatic Centre. Edithvale Park and Edithvale community centre offer residents an indoor gymnasium, indoor track, outdoor soccer field, baseball diamond, basketball court, and skating rink.
5. Shopping:
The Yonge Street shopping corridor is brimming with some best Chinese and Korean restaurants, coffee shops, and professional service stores. Shoppers can find several supermarkets and groceries, such as Loblaw and Metro, along Yonge street.
6. Schools:
Churchill Public School and Yorkview Pubic School accept students from JK to Grade 5, and Willowdale Middle School admits students from Grade 6 to Grade 8. There is no high school in the Willowdale West community, so high school students must attend Northview Heights Secondary School in Westminster-Branson.
Willowdale West is a fast-paced community with many new condo projects planned and under development along Yonge Street. Many original houses have also been torn down and replaced by new modern homes.
