Home to Sunnybrook Hospital, Canada's largest trauma centre, Bridle Path-Sunnybrook-York Mills is one of the most affluent communities in Toronto. The community comprises some famous upscale neighbourhoods, including Bridle Path, Hoggs Hollow, York Mills and Sunnybrook.
Community Overview
The boundary of the community of Bridle Path-Sunnybrook-York Mills is irregular. It runs from Yonge Street and east Yonge Street on the west to York Mills Road in the North, Wilket Creek on the east, and North of Eglinton Avenue on the South. Hogg's Hollow is on the northwest corner of the community. The area is bounded by Rosedale Golf Club and Highland Crescent and is known for its expensive houses and gorgeous landscape. On the west end of the community is Bridle Path. It is the wealthiest neighbourhood in GTA. There are many celebrities from different industries living here.
1. Housing:
Bridle Path-Sunnybrook-York Mills real estate can be viewed as four separate quadrants.
West of Highland Crescent and north of Rosedale Golf Club is called Hoggs Hollow. Embedded into the natural landscape of hill and dale topography, the original housing stocks consisted of detached bungalows, split-level, and 2-story homes mixture of English Cottage, Tudor, Colonial and Georgian architecture, mostly built between the 1920s and early 1960s. Many old houses were torn down and redeveloped into multi-million dollar modern homes. There are also a small number of condo buildings and townhouses along York Mills Road.
Often referred to as 'Millionaires' Row', Bridle Path, a wealthy neighbourhood on the community's east side, is home to top-notch estates that exude grand, luxury, quality, beauty, and nobility. Many huge mansions sitting between Post Road and Saintfield Avenue are among the largest homes in GTA. These giant homes often have frontage from 100 feet to over 300 feet. The area north of Post Road and south of Saintfield Avenue are comparatively more minor but still has a large lot with a minimum of 70 feet front and interior square of over 3000 square feet. 1 Post Road is a French Chateau-style luxury mid-rise condominium building, which only has 42 units and internal size from 1515 to 4435 sqft.
The northeast corner of the community is part of the York Mills neighbourhood, which is famous for its executive-style housing, century-old trees and lush landscape. Most real estate development happened between the late 1920s and the 1960s. Many dated bungalows, back-split, side-split, and 2-Storey detached homes have been transformed into custom-built modern homes.
West to Sunnybrook hospital is another prestigious neighbourhood mixed with various sizes of detached houses. It is not uncommon to find some mega-mansions sold recently for over 10 million dollars. Along Bayview Avenue, there are also some more affordable townhouses and mid-rise condo buildings.
With fewer affordable housing options in the community, only about 9% of the residents are tenants.
From MLS listings, in the past 90 days, Bridle Path-Sunnybrook-York Mills North York sold 17 detached houses on average of $4,484,529; 2 Town homes on average of $1,395,500; 7 condos on average of $1,375,271.
2. Demographic:
There are only about 30% visible minority population in Bridle Path-Sunnybrook-York Mills. Over 65% of the residents are of European Origin, and 20% are of East and Southeast Asia origin. British Isles origins, English, Scottish, Chinese and Irish are top ethnic origins. The top birthplaces of all immigrants are China, Iran, the UK, Hong Kong, the USA, and other places in Asia. Also, a significantly higher proportion of the residents have a bachelor's degree and above.
3. Transportation:
Most residents use cars as their primary mode of transportation. The community is very close to highway 401. Car commuters can quickly get on the route and conveniently travel in all directions. Bridle Path-Sunnybrook-York Mills is less than 10km from Toronto's downtown core. Around 18% of residents travel by public transit. Three subway stations along Yonge Street, York Mills, Lawrence and Eglinton stations are very close to the community. Numerous buses run through the community and have bus stops along York Mills Road, Bayview Avenue and Mt Pleasant Road.
4. Recreation:
Sunnybrook Park is the largest park in the community and offers high-quality sports fields for soccer, football, tennis, cricket, field hockey and rugby. Located at 1132 Leslie St, Sunnybrook Stables offers an unparalleled equestrian experience to visitors. Along Wilket Creek, Windfields Park, Edward Gardens, Wilket Creek Park, and Serena Gundy Park offer several well-maintained paved trails surrounded by gorgeous wooded trees and open fields for excise and recreation activities. The Edward Garden is also home to the Toronto Botanic Garden, which possesses about 4 acres of land and 17 themed gardens. Sherwood Park is on the southwest corner of the community bordering Mount Pleasant Hope Catholic Cemetery. It has a dog off-leash area, a picnic site and a 4.7km walking trail.
5. Shopping:
Several shopping plazas are along Bayview Avenue and Yonge Street. York Mills Shopping Center, located at York Mills Road and Bayview Avenue, is an outdoor shopping centre anchored by a Metro supermarket. Shoppers will find Whole Foods Market and Metro supermarket on the north of Mt. Hope Catholic Cemetery and the west side of Bayview Avenue. Residents living west of the community will find a Loblaw supermarket and many restaurants and retail stores on Yonge Street.
6. Schools:
Bridle Path-Sunnybrook-York Mills is home to several top private schools in GTA. Founded in 1913, Crescent School is one of Canada's most prestigious boys' schools and accepts students from grades 3 to 12. TFS - Canada's International School is a highly diversified private school and the only full-continuum International Baccalaureate world school for French and English in Canada.
Four public elementary schools serve the students from JK to grade 5, Armour Heights Public School covering northwest, Owen Public School northeast, Denlow Public School middle-west, and Blythwood Junior Public School southwest. Students from Grade 6 to grade 8 will be able to attend one of the three middle schools, Windfields Middle School covering the northwest, St Andrew's Middle School covering the northeast, and Glenview Senior Public School covering the southwest. Founded in 1957, York Mills Collegiate Institute is the only secondary school for the community. The excellent school ranks around 50 over 739 high schools in Ontario. York Mills Collegiate Institute also delivers a French Immersion program to students.
In the heart of the community is York University Glendon Campus, a public liberal arts college that offers education in bilingual English and French.
