Milliken Mills West is located south of Markham City and borders Scarborough, Toronto. Its land area is one of the largest in Markham, but the residential real estate concentrates at the southeast corner and occupies only about a quarter of the land. Light industries, warehouses, business offices, and retail plazas fill most of the Community.

Community Overview

Milliken Mills West runs from Kennedy Road on the East to Highway 407 on the North, Steeles Avenue on the South, and Highway 404 on the east. Two significant roads, 14th Avenue(Alden Rd/Esna Park Drive/John Street) and Denison Street, run through the Community from east to west. And the other four significant roads, Woodbine Avenue, Rodick Road/Esna Park Drive, Warden Avenue, and Birchmount Road, run through the Community from North to south. Milliken Mills West is an Asian-dominant community in Markham.

1. Housing:

The residential real estate in Milliken Mills West concentrates in the area between Warden Avenue and Kennedy Road and 14th Avenue and Steeles Avenue. The main housing stock consists of freehold single detached, Link, and semi-detached houses, primarily developed between the 1970s and 80s. Most homes have three to four bedrooms with single or double-car garages. There are also a few condo townhouses and mid-rise condo buildings at the junction of Kennedy Road and 14th Avenue.

2. Demographic:

Milliken Mills West is an Asian-dominant Community, with over 48% of the occupants Chinese and 22% from other parts of Asia. About 18% of renters live in the Community.

3. Transportation:

Public transit is readily available. Several TTC and YRT bus routes are along Steeles Avenue, Woodbine Avenue, John Street, Denison Street, Kennedy Road, Warden Avenue, and 14th Avenue. Milliken Go station is also within a 5 mins drive from the neighborhood. Milliken Mills West borders highway 404 and express tollway 407, which car commuters can quickly get on the route and conveniently travel in all directions.

4. Recreation:

Milliken Mills Park, Highgate Park, and Risebrough Park are some of the largest parks providing soccer fields, baseball diamonds, basketball courts, tennis courts, and children's playgrounds. Milliken Mills Community Centre also offers an indoor soccer field, a swimming pool with a whirlpool and sauna, a dance studio, an ice rink, and a public library.

5. Shopping:

Shoppers can find many Chinese supermarkets, such as First Choice Supermarket, Sunfood Supermarket, and T&T Supermarket, along Kennedy Road and Steeles Avenue. The largest Asian indoor shopping mall in North America, Pacific Mall, is located at the junction of Kennedy Road and Steeles Avenue where visitors can find hundreds of stores and restaurants. Warden Centre Mall is an outdoor plaza at Warden Avenue and Steeles Avenue. Anchored by T&T Supermarket, the plaza has numerous restaurants, a drugstore, a bank, and retail stores. For someone who likes to experience the cultural ambiance of Japan, J-Town is GTA's largest Japanese shopping mall featuring a grocer, a ramen restaurant, a bookstore, and more.

6. Schools:

Milliken Mills West has two excellent elementary schools serving students from GK to grade 8. Milliken Mills Public School admits students west of Birchmount Road, and Highgate Public School accepts students east of the road. Established in 1988, Milliken Mills High School ranks top 10% among Ontario's 700 schools. In 2017, Milliken Mills High School, Alexander Mackenzie and G.W. Williams SS, and Maple HS joined Bayview SS as the board's IB Diploma Program schools.

Milliken Mills West borders two significant highways and Steeles Avenue, which makes the commute to other parts of GTA straightforward.
