Middlefield is located south of Markham City and borders Scarborough, Toronto. It is a community heavily influenced by South Asian culture. The top birthplaces of all immigrants are Chinese, Indian, Sri Lankan, Pakistani, Tamil, and Filipino.
Community Overview
Middlefield runs from Markham Road on the East to Highway 407 on the North, 14th Avenue on the South, and McCowan Road on the West. Three significant roads, 14th Avenue, Highglen Avenue, and Denison Street, run through the Community from east to west. Middlefield Road runs through the Community from North to South. North of 14th Avenue is zoned for light industry, and South of 14th Avenue is concentrated residential real estate.
1. Housing:
The predominant housing types in Middlefield are four bedrooms with Double Garage detached homes, and three bedrooms Link homes. A small number of semi-detached houses, townhomes, and condo apartments are scattered throughout the Community. The real estate residential buildings in the Community were mainly constructed between the 1980s and 2000s. Adjacent to Aaniin Community Centre, it is a brand new neighborhood mixed with townhouses and single detached houses and is currently under development by Remington Homes.

2. Demographic:
Middlefield is an Asian ethnic dominant Community, about 50% of the occupants are from South Asia, and 33% are Chinese. There are around 15% of renters live in the Community.
3. Transportation:
Public transit is readily available. Several TTC and YRT bus routes are along Steeles Avenue, McCowan Road, Denison Street, Markham Road, Middlefield Road, and 14th Avenue. Milliken Go station is also within a 10 mins drive from the neighborhood. The community borders express tollway 407, allowing car commuters to quickly get on the route and conveniently travel in all directions.
4. Recreation:
Several parks are well-distributed across the Community. James Edward Park, Elson Park, John Daniels Park, Featherstone Park, Beaupre Park, Peace Park, and Coppard Park offer soccer fields, baseball diamonds, basketball courts, and children's playgrounds. Aaniin Community Centre, a brand new building commissioned in 2017, furnishes modern facilities such as an indoor swimming pool, fitness center, indoor playground, indoor running track, rock climbing wall, and a public library. Markham Sports Dome is another soccer, rugby, and lacrosse indoor sports field. Located in the Toronto neighborhood community, Milliken Park Community Recreation Centre and Milliken District Park present outdoor kids' playgrounds, an indoor Gymnasium, walking trails, and picnic sites. For golf fans, Markham Executive Golf Club is an 18-hole golf course northwest of the Community.
5. Shopping:
Shopping is very convenient for residents. At the northeast corner of the Community, shoppers can find many national retailers such as Costco, Canadian Tire, Winners, The Home Depot, and Staples. Nearby several shopping plazas also offer countless restaurants, apparel shops, bakeries, cafes, banks, and services stores. At the southeast corner, besides Walmart Supercenter, Lowe's Home Improvement warehouse, and many other retailers and restaurants, visitors can also find branch offices of five leading Canadian banks in this area.
6. Schools:
Middlefield has five elementary schools serving students from GK to grade 8. Markham Gateway Public School admits students north of Denison Street and east of Middlefield Road; Parkland Public School accepts students living southeast of the Community. In the western part of the Community, Coppard Glen Public School receives students residing in the north, and Armadale Public School intakes students living in the South. Ellen Fairclough Public School is responsible for students residing in the rest of the Community. The Community belongs to the Middlefield Collegiate Institute and Father McGivney Catholic high school zone. Father McGivney Catholic High School is also an International Baccalaureate World School.
