Doncrest

Doncrest community locates in the South East Corner of Richmond Hill, neighbouring the Commerce Valley community of Markham south. It is one of the smallest communities in Richmond Hill.

Community Overview

The community of Doncrest runs from West Beaver Creek at East to Highway 7 in the south, Bayview Ave on the west, and 16th Ave in the north. Neighbour community to the Doncrest at east is Beaver Creek Business Park, concentrated with many Small to Medium size Businesses. Residential condos and many commercial plazas, restaurants, banks, medical care and other service businesses are located in the south of the community close to Highway 7.

1. Housing:

The real estate at Doncrest Richmond Hill composes many two-storey detached houses over 2,500sqf, the majority built in the 1980s and 90s. A fair number of low and mid-rise residential condominiums are located in the community's south, close to highway 7.

From MLS listings, in the past 90 days, Doncrest Richmond Hill sold 14 detached houses on average of $1,968,343; 2 Attached town home, Semi-detached and Link houses on average of $1,330,000; 12 condos on average of $651,233.

2. Demographic:

About 40% population speak Cantonese, Mandarin, and other Chinese dialects, followed by the Persian language. The median age is 40-45 years, which is more senior than the Ontario average.

3. Transportation:

Highway 7 forms the southern boundary of Doncrest, giving residents convenient access to the city of Markham and Vaughan. Highway 407, a toll expressway just south of Hwy 7, offers commuters quick access to Highway 404 and 400. The nearest Go station is the Langstaff Go. The residents can take a short YRT bus ride on Highway 7. Ample parking spaces attached to the Langstaff Go Station allow those who wish to use public transit to park their cars there.

4. Recreation:

The Doncrest community occupies a relatively more minor area than many other communities. However, there are many facilities, two large parks, 6 forest green spaces, indoor sports fields, outdoor soccer fields, baseball fields, tennis courts And so on.

The central hub for recreation in Doncrest is David Hamilton Park, with a splash pad, new play areas, multi-use courts, seating, walkways, and lighting and sports facility upgrades. As for the entertainment, York Cinema is a small independent, multicultural movie house that features current Asian movies.

5. Shopping:

From the west of Bayview Avenue to the east of Leslie Street, several plazas such as Time Square, Commerce Gate and Golden Court sit right beside highway 7. Here is home to great ethnic restaurants. Many well-known Asian, Western and Persian restaurants attract locals and visitors annually. On the west side of Bayview is Bayview Glen Plaza. One can find many world-renowned retailers such as Best Buy, Walmart, Loblaws, Canadian Tires, Home Depot and many more.

6. Schools:

Doncrest Public School ranked in the top 10% across Ontario; Adrienne Clarkson Public School in the community can meet the educational needs of French Immersion.

Located at Bayview and south of Highway 407, Thornlea Secondary School is zoned for the Doncrest community. The School was ranked consistently around the top 15% in Ontario. Thornlea school provides both French Immersion and AP programs to students. For a Catholic family, children can also attend St. Robert Catholic High School, which is located near the intersection of Leslie Street and 407 Highway in Markham. The School was established in 1975 and currently has about 1,700 students. St. Robert Catholic Public High School offers students special programs such as the IB International Baccalaureate, ESL and Aviation Technology programs. St. Robert's High School has scored very high in provincial examinations over the past several years and repeatedly ranked in the top 20 of more than 700 schools in Ontario.
