Devonsleigh

The Devonsleigh community has a great high school, walking trails and many green spaces. The railway divides the community into east and west, which serves Go Train and transcontinental freight train owned by Canadian National Railway.

Community Overview

The Devonsleigh community runs from Yonge St on the West to Elgin Mill in the south, Bayview on the East, and 19th Ave on the north. It is a family-oriented community. Some light industries and warehouses are at the south end of the community east side of the rail track.

1. Housing:

Homes in Devonsleigh look pretty uniform, as real estate developer starts to expand this part of Richmond Hill between the 1990s and the 2000s. Three to Five Bedrooms Single detached homes account for almost 80% of properties; the remainder is 3 to 4-bedroom freehold townhouses. A small number of Condo Apartments and Condo Townhomes concentrate on the community's West side close to Yonge St. Crescent Village and Jubilee Garden, located at the intersection of Yorkland Street and Silverwood Avenue, are both non-profit social housing buildings. Homeownership in Devonsleigh is around 80%. While most residents can enjoy the quietness in the community, housing close to the rail track can experience noise and vibration as the railway serves not only Passenger Go Train but also the transcontinental freight lines.

From MLS listings, in the past 90 days, Devonsleigh Richmond%20hill sold 13 detached houses on average of $1,644,600; 1 Attached town home, Semi-detached and Link houses on average of $1,100,000.

2. Demographic:

Most residents here are Chinese, and the other ethnic groups include Italian, Greek, Iranian, Indian, South Korean and local Canadian. The proportion of the population with a university degree is high. Residents tend to be older, with the median age of 47, higher than the Ontario average.

3. Transportation:

Cars are commonly used transportation for most residents. Public transit is not very convenient, but over 10 bus lines still pass through the community.

4. Recreation:

There are several parks and walking trails in the community. Newberry Park offers a children's playground and a tennis court. One can also find baseball courts, basketball courts, and a children's playground in Harrington Park. Moreover, Leno Park provides a soccer field and baseball courts. Multiple walking trails also link residential and commercial real estate with community parks.

5. Shopping:

There are a good number of shops near Yonge Street and Elgin Mills. Residents can find supermarkets, furniture shops, restaurants, and cafes here.

6. Schools:

Redstone Public School and H G Bernard Public School are two elementary schools that accept students from kindergarten to grade 8. The school zone is divided by rail tracks at the centre of Devonsleigh. Redstone serves the community on the west and H G Bernard east.

Richmond Hill High School is sitting on the west side of the community. It was established in 1851 as the second oldest school in the York region. The school ranks in the top 5% in Ontario based on the past several years EOAO testing results. It serves the community west of the rail track. Richmond Hill High School also offers specialized programs such as Gifted and Advanced Placement (AP). Students from the community's east side will attend Richmond Green Secondary school. Richmond Green is a relatively new school but a rising star among high schools. It is just beside Richmond Green Sports Center and Park, which offers Indoor and Outdoor soccer fields, Skating fields, Baseball and softball fields, and basketball courts. On the North East corner, there is also a private school, Holy Trinity School, which takes students from JK to Grade 12.

Devonsleigh is a family-friendly diversified community. There are many green spaces and excellent school resources in the community.
