Uplands

Upland is considered one of the most prestigious mature neighborhoods in Thornhill. Over a quarter of the land in the Community is covered by green spaces, where sit two famous golf clubs, Uplands Golf & Ski Club and The Thornhill Golf Club.

Community Overview

The Community of Uplands runs from Yonge Street in the east to Highway 7 in the North, Bathurst Street in the west, and Centre Stree in the South. Upland is on the Southeast side of Vaughan, bordering Markham and Richmond Hill.

1. Housing:

Encircling Upland Golf & Ski Club, the real estate in this part of Vaughan is best described as executive homes sitting on generous lots. Around Elmbank Road, Thornbank Road, Parr Place, Riverside Blvd, and Oakbank Road, plenty of top-notch estates exude luxury, quality, generosity, and nobility. Both detached 2-Storey and ranch-style bungalows are ubiquitously presented throughout the Community. There are small numbers of condo townhouses located close to Yonge Street and at the intersection of Bathurst and Centre Street. Homes in this Community were mainly built after 1980, while many older homes were torn down and rebuilt in recent years. Homeownership in this part of Vaughan is very high, with around 95% of owners occupying their properties.

From MLS listings, in the past 90 days, Uplands Vaughan sold 9 detached houses on average of $2,604,099; 4 Town homes on average of $1,045,000.

2. Demographic:

Upland is home to a sizeable Jewish community, many from Russia, Poland, Ukraine, and Israel. Chinese account for around 9% of the population in the Community. Italian, Persian, Korean, and Filipino make up most of the remaining residents.

3. Transportation:

Driving is much more convenient in this part of Vaughan. Highway 407, a toll expressway just north border of the neighborhood, links two significant Highways, 404 and 400. Furthermore, Highway 7 on the north has a speed limit of 80Km and fewer traffic lights between Keele St and Bayview Ave. For public transit, York Region Bus Promenade Terminal is located close to the intersection of Bathurst Street and Center Street. It carries around 10 bus routes connecting other communities of Vaughan and Markham. Furthermore, several buses also connect North York Finch subway station, which converges with the central transit system to downtown Toronto.

4. Recreation:

Uplands Golf & Ski Club and Thornhill Golf Club occupy large green spaces in the Community. Besides offering Golf courses, Uplands Golf & Ski Club has a ski hill for beginners in the winter. The Thornhill Club, which also has tennis courts and a curling field, is a private membership golf club with nine- and 18-hole golf courses. Furthermore, several community parks are scattered throughout the Community. Newport Square Park, Rosedale North Park, Oakbank Pond Park, and Thornhill Park present residents with walking trails, an outdoor swimming pool, basketball courts, baseball diamonds, tennis courts, and children's playgrounds.

5. Shopping:

Most shops are centered along Yonge Street. Residents can find Food Basics supermarkets, restaurants, cafes, and several service stores here. Furthermore, SmartCentres Thornhill and Promenade Shopping Mall are located in neighboring communities Southwest. The promenade mall occupies around 900,000 square feet of retail spaces with ample parking spots. Over 150 stores are running businesses here, and visitors can find groceries, restaurants, banks, telecoms, and many other service shops here. Anchored by Walmart Supercenter, SmartCentres Thornhill offers customers supplementary dining, banking, and shopping experience.

6. Schools:

Baythorn Public School and Rosedale Heights Public School are elementary schools that accept students from kindergarten to grade 8. The school zone is bounded by the creek dividing the Golf field, with Baythorn public school intaking students living east of the Community and Rosedale Heights School admitting west. Baythorn Public School is an excellent school based on recent years' EQAO testing results and ranked top 100 among 3000 schools by Fraser institution.

For high schools, students living west of the creek will go to Westmount Collegiate, one of four York region high schools specializing in arts programs. Thornhill secondary school admits students from the remainder of the Community. Both high schools accept international students and offer ESL courses.
