Westbrook

Westbrook is one of the fastest growing communities of Richmond Hilling, sitting on the edges of the Oak Ridges Moraine. Many of the lands are covered with leafy forests, rivers, and trails.

Community Overview

The Westbrook community runs from Bathurst St on the West to Elgin Mill on the south, Yonge St on the East, and Gamble Road on the north. The community is relatively new.

1. Housing:

The substantial real estate development of Westbrook Richmond Hill occurred in 2000, led by urban sprawl and the influx of many new immigrants. Detached homes dominate the area, around 70%; the rest are mainly townhomes. Three and four Bedrooms houses are the most typical dwellings in this community.

From MLS listings, in the past 90 days, Westbrook Richmond%20Hill sold 24 detached houses on average of $1,861,138; 8 Attached town home, Semi-detached and Link houses on average of $1,377,625; 3 Town homes on average of $1,241,723.

2. Demographic:

The neighbourhood is notable for its higher education and above-average income. Besides English, the other languages commonly used at home are Russian, Italian, Chinese and Persian.

3. Transportation:

Cars are typically used as transportation for most residents. Public transit is not very convenient, but YRT bus lines on both Yonge and Bathurst Street can take commuters directly to Finch subway station, which links to the central transit system to downtown Toronto.

4. Recreation:

Twickenham Park sitting right beside St. Theresa Catholic High School, is the most remarkable green space in West Brook. The park, which offers a walking trail along with the branch of the Don river, is a favourite destination for residents. Trans Richmond Trail is a 3.7km trail from east to west of the community. It is an ideal place for hiking or jogging and takes around 50 mins to walk. In addition, many other parks in the community also offer a tennis court, kits playground, soccer field, walking trails and ponds. The Elgin West Community Centre at the west end of the community close to Bathurst Street provides amenities such as a swimming pool, gymnasium, free wifi, meeting rooms and a children's playground.

5. Shopping:

Most shops are centred at Yonge Street and Elgin Mills. Residents can find Longo and No Frill supermarkets, restaurants, banks, cafes, and many shops here.

6. Schools:

Trillium Woods Public School and Silver Pine Public School are two elementary schools that receive students from kindergarten to grade 8. Trillium Woods is one of the top 100 schools over 3000 primary schools in Ontario in the past several years EQAO testing results.

West Brook is home to St.Theresa Of Lisieux Catholic High School, which was ranked consistently top 10 out of over 700 high schools in Ontario. The school delivers an Advanced Placement (AP) program to its students. Richmond Hill High School is a public high school zoned for this community. The school ranks in the top 5% in Ontario based on the past several years EOAO testing results. Richmond Hill High School also offers specialized programs such as Gifted and Advanced Placement (AP).

For a family looking for an affordable but safe neighbourhood with a great school zone in Richmond Hill, West Brook should be on top of the list.
