Devil's Elbow

Devil's Elbow borders two prestigious communities in Markham, Cachet and Angus Glen, and is well-known for its mansion size home on estate lots. The east end of the community is the famous Angus Glen Golf Club, which hosted Canadian Open in 2002 and 2007. And the Southeast end of the Devil's Elbow was once York Downs Golf Club, but its land, encompassing 417 acres, was sold to real estate developers to build single detached and townhomes.

Community Overview

Devil's Elbow runs from Woodbine Avenue on the West to Major Mackenzie Road on the North. The east side borders Angus Glen Golf Club and York Downs Golf Club. The south edge starts from Personna Blvd and meets with the Rouge River Tributary, Carleton Creek.

1. Housing:

Devil's Elbow has some of Markham's most prominent homes and estate properties. Primarily built between the 1960s and 1980s, mansion-sized homes with estate lots over an acre of land are situated on the exclusive and opulent signature streets such as Cachet Parkway, Personna Blvd, and Richard Pearson Drive. The east end near Angus Glen Golf Club is a more recent neighborhood developed after 2000 and mixed with modern detached houses and townhomes.

2. Demographic:

Devil's Elbow is another dominant Asian community in Markham, with over half of the occupants Chinese. The median household income ranks top 6% in GTA. Furthermore, about 50% of residents in Devil's Elbow have received a university degree or higher.

3. Transportation:

Driving downtown or north of GTA is straightforward. The entry of highway 404 on Major Mackenzie Drive is a short distance from the community. Express tollway 407 allows a quick journey to both east and west, even during rush hour. Without a car, residents can also use public transit. Several YRT bus routes are along Woodbine, Warden Avenue, Major Mackenzie Drive, and Angus Glen Blvd.

4. Recreation:

Many small creeks and ponds are scattered throughout the community. Angus Glen Golf Club offers two 18-hole championship golf courses and has previously hosted multiple worldwide golf events. Located close to Warden Avenue and Major Mackenzie Avenue, Angus Glen community center features NHL-sized ice rinks, a public library, a double gymnasium, an indoor pool, and more. Nearby Angus Glen Tennis Centre is a 27,810 square feet indoor tennis facility.

5. Shopping:

North of Major Mackenzie and West of Woodbine Avenue, Cachet Village is a 400,000 sq. ft. shopping center anchored by Canadian tire. Four Major Canadian banks have retail branches in this shopping center. Cachet Centre shopping plaza anchored by T&T Asian Supermarket is locals' favorite destination. The plaza also runs many businesses, including Tim Horton, Sports Chek, Shoppers Drug Mart, Beijing Tongrentang Chinese herbal store, TD Bank, and many other restaurants and stores. The King Square mall is a multi-story indoor shopping center at Woodbine and Markland Street. It is a relatively new shopping mall, and the marketer named it after the busiest shopping district in Beijing, Wangfujing.

6. Schools:

Unionville Public School and Buttonville Public School are excellent elementary schools serving the community. Pierre Elliott Trudeau High School offers French Immersion Programs to students and ranks No. 12 high school in Ontario. Located at Rodick Road north of 16th Avenue, St. Augustine Catholic High School is another excellent high school serving the community.

Devil's Elbow is a prestigious community in Markham. Families choose to live in this part of Markham because they can find many large houses with ample interior space.
